Honest Appliance Repair Man in Huntington Says to be Sure you Really Need Appliance Repair
Frustration mounts as busy moms juggle work, children, errands, appointments and housework…Now the Washer won't work!

Huntington, NY – Appliance repair is the last thing anyone wants to deal with. It's a day like any other day when busy moms are juggling work, home and children. Frustration mounts as siblings squabble, someone spills something, and a toy is lost, etc…Now the washer isn't working!

The frustrated homemaker doesn't always think to do some troubleshooting on her own. She wants the appliance repaired now so she can get things done. Finding an appliance repair service that can come out right away can be difficult. When one promises to be there soon, she ends up waiting all day.

Bob Dougherty owns Fleet Appliance Corp, an appliance repair company that is well known in the Huntington area as being honest and dependable. When Bob gets the call from the overwhelmed homemaker, he will ask her just what is going on. Dougherty said, "I have her check a few simple things like breakers or fuses and if the appliance is plugged in. I've seen many cases where people will clean behind the appliance and forget to plug it in or when pets cause the cord to pull away."

Bob Dougherty makes a living in the appliance repair business, so why would he try to avoid a service call by providing troubleshooting tips over the phone? He certainly cannot bill the customer for his time if he doesn't come to their home. Bob explained, "I understand the frustration when things do not work. Appliance repair can be expensive. Technicians will charge a service fee even if they simply go into the home to reset a breaker or plug in the appliance. I like to be sure my services are truly needed before going to a customer's home. This way, I'm free to handle those who really need appliance repair.

Bob Dougherty recently posted an article to his blog to help consumers troubleshoot washing machine problems. The problem could be something simple that the homeowner can fix themselves. Bob recommends reading his troubleshooting article before calling the appliance repair man.

10 Tips If Your Washer Does Not Work
Fleet Appliance provides appliance repair services for consumers in the Long Island area. Fleet Appliance is Long Islands only Certified Service Center. Everyone likes to save money whenever they can, so please read this article before calling the appliance repair man:

Fleet Appliances has 10 tips for you if your washer does not start:

• Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?

• Are you using an extension cord?

• Has a household fuse blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped?

• Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?

• Is the water inlet hose kinked?

• Are the water inlet valve screens on the washer clogged?

• Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle?

• Is the timer knob in an Off position?

• Is the timer knob pushed in?

• Is the lid open?

If you answered YES to any of the above please check below to find the solution.

Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?
Plug power cord into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

Are you using an extension cord?
Do not use an extension cord.

Has a household fuse blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped?
Check to see if a household circuit breaker or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt (GFCI) outlet has tripped. If so, reset the circuit breaker or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt. If the washer is on a fuse box, check to see if a fuse has blown and replace it, if necessary. If the problem continues, call an electrician.

Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Turn on the water. Check the household faucets to see if the hot and/or cold water is shut off. If so, completely open them for proper fill.
NOTE: Both hot and cold water must be connected to the washer and turned on. The washer will not properly operate with only one incoming source of water.

Is the water inlet hose kinked?
Straighten the hoses.

Are the water inlet valve screens on the washer clogged?
Turn off the water and remove the inlet hoses from the washer. Remove any accumulated film or particles from the water inlet valve screens. Reinstall the hoses, turn on water, and check for leaks
.
Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle?
Some cycles use short soaks (no wash action) to improve fabric care. The wash action turns on and off throughout the wash. The washer may pause for up to 3 minutes during certain cycles. Allow the cycle to continue.

Is the timer knob in the off position?
Make sure the timer knob pointer is lined up with a cycle selection and the knob is pulled out. The washer may not start if the pointer is too close to an Off position. Push in the timer knob. Slightly move the timer knob clockwise, and then pull out the knob. The washer will not start if the timer is not in the correct position.

Is the timer knob pushed in?
Pull out the knob to start the washer. If the lid was opened after the cycle started, the lid may have pushed in the knob. Make sure the knob is pulled out.

Is the lid open?
Your previous washer may have filled and washed with the lid open. Newer washers will not fill or wash with the lid open. The lid must be closed for the washer to fill with water, wash, drain, rinse and spin the load. Close the washer lid before starting the washer.

If these tips do not work and the washer does not fill please call Fleet Appliance Service at 631.824.7895 For Service Today!

Suffolk County Appliance Service Technician Has Nuking Tips for Microwave Oven Users
Over 90 percent of Americans own a microwave oven, one of the greatest inventions in technology
Appliance Service Suffolk County expert, Bob Dougherty, repairs all home appliances, large and small, from washers and dryers to microwave and toaster ovens.
Quite often, when he goes out on an appliance service call, Dougherty notices common habits among appliance owners that lead to pre-mature breakdown, such as overloading a washer or dryer or putting food wrapped in foil into the microwave oven.
The microwave oven, invented in 1945 by Percy Spencer, has been rated the #1 technology for improving people’s lives. Since the first sale in 1967, the microwave oven sparked a revolution in American lifestyle, with one being found in 90 percent of homes.
Here are some tips that Bob Dougherty provides to his customers while he is on an appliance repair call:
 Stir or turn food during cooking time for even heat distribution
 Use lower settings for defrosting food and softening butter or cream cheese
 Use a medium power level for reheating food
 Use high power level for quick cooking and heating water
 Use only microwave-safe containers and avoid cooking in plastic containers unless they are labeled microwave-safe
 Glass and ceramic dishes or paper plates are best for microwave cooking
 Do not place foil, brown paper bags or foam-insulated cups in the microwave
 Do not warm food in containers like those from yogurt, soft margarine or cottage cheese
In addition to the above, Bob Dougherty suggests an easy tip for cleaning the inside of the microwave, “To clean up splattered food inside the microwave oven, heat a bowl of water with lemon juice on high power for five minutes, then leave the door shut for an additional five minutes. Wipe down with a solution of one cup of water with one tablespoon of baking soda.”

How cleaning and organizing the refrigerator and pantry before grocery shopping can save money and eliminate food waste
With over 30 different blogs containing informative articles on appliance repair and troubleshooting tips, appliance recall notices and energy saving tips, consumers can learn how to get the most out of their appliances.

His most recent post about grocery shopping and cleaning the refrigerator and pantry has gained the attention of Long Island consumers with tips to save money and eliminate food waste.

According to Whirlpool Corporation research, only 27 percent of people say they clean out the refrigerator before going grocery shopping. Others just make room for the newly purchased groceries by reorganizing the refrigerator, throwing things out and shoving everything in without a care for organization.

According to Dougherty, when people take the time to organize the refrigerator and pantry and take inventory of what they already have on hand before grocery shopping they can save money by purchasing only what they need. Rotating food prevents waste and allows consumers to use more of what they already have before its expiration date.

Another great tip Dougherty offers is keeping the refrigerator and freezer full to reduce energy bills and refrigerator running to maintain temperature controls. An empty refrigerator or freezer tends to run more and use more energy. Filling jugs with water to fill empty space between shopping trips can make a big difference.

Appliance Repair Long Island New York Company Exceeds Customer Expectations
Bob Dougherty has been rated certified service manager, the highest level of recognition for the managerial expertise given by the independent service industry

Bob Dougherty is known in his community as the friendly neighborhood appliance service provider. Unlike many home service providers, Bob is not in a hurry to come in, do the job, collect a fee and be on his way. Bob enjoys making conversation while he works and he often provides customers with valuable information about maintaining their appliances to reduce the chance of break down.

When Bob Dougherty is called for appliance repair service, he feels honored to be invited into the customer’s home and trusted to service their appliance. Bob Dougherty provides quality service, displaying integrity and professional workmanship, while respecting the customer’s home. Quite often, his customers are surprised when they notice the area is cleaner than it was before he came in.

Bob is always happy to answer questions and provide tips for extending the life of their appliances. “My customers like to talk to me while I work and I enjoy the company,” said Dougherty. “In addition, I respect their home and I clean up after myself. This is not only good service, but it can be a safety issue if debris is left lying around.”

Bob Dougherty takes pride in his work. He has passed a comprehensive exam that measures skills in consumer relations and management techniques. The certified service manager rating is the highest available level of recognition for the managerial expertise given by the independent service industry.

Appliance Repair Long Island Expert with Tips on Knocking Down the Laundry Mountain
Getting to the bottom of the laundry mountain can be a daunting task…Preventing it from growing so large in the first place is the key

During a recent appliance service call, Dougherty felt the customer’s pain when he saw the huge mountain of laundry, so he got right to work diagnosing and repairing the washing machine.

In his spare time, Dougherty enjoys creating blogs and posting articles about appliance repair and troubleshooting, appliance recall notices and information about finding and choosing an appliance service company.

The customer’s large pile of laundry was the inspiration for one of Bob’s most recent articles entitled Knocking Down the Laundry Mountain. The article contains tips for keeping ahead and preventing the mountain from growing in the first place.

The first and most important tip is to avoid temptation to overload the washer and dryer. According to Dougherty, this will not save time by getting the job done faster. “Overloading the washer and dryer puts excess stress on the appliances, causing pre-mature breakdown and higher energy bills,” said Dougherty. “Clothes come out cleaner with less wrinkling when they have plenty of room to move freely during the wash cycle.”

Consumers want to know how to keep their stove top looking new and prevent stains and discoloration of the drip pans on their electric range
When Dougherty went on a recent appliance service call to repair a dishwasher, he noticed the stains on the stove. He remembered that the customer had just purchased the stove when he was at their house a few months ago. Also noting that the customer kept a very clean house and maintained her appliances, he decided to address the issue.

Dirty drip pans or burner bowls on electric ranges often become grimy and lose their shine while the rest of the appliance remains new looking. According to Dougherty, causes of discoloration include:

• Excessive use of high heat over a long period of time
• Food spills being cooked into the surface
• Large cookware that extends more than a half-inch beyond the coil element
• Improper cookware with warped or uneven bottoms

Appliance maintenance is key to keeping appliances looking good and working properly. With over 30 appliance repair blogs containing articles about appliance repair and troubleshooting, appliance care and maintenance and details on recent appliance recalls, consumers can learn how to get the most out of their home appliances.

Port Jefferson Appliance Repair Expert Explains the Value of Appliance Service
Consumers discover the value of professional appliance repair service in spite of the cost
Just the thought of calling the appliance repair service is scary. How much will it cost and how does one know if they are getting a fair deal? Appliances often break down shortly after their warranty expires. Since appliances only bread down while they are being used, one cannot be prepared for the inconvenience in advance.

It’s bad enough when things do not go as planned and it becomes necessary to call an appliance repair service and schedule an appointment. When all goes well, the customer will be given a window of several hours as to when the appliance repair man will show up.

When the appliance repairman arrives and fixes it in only 10 minutes, the customer breathes a sigh of relief…until they see the bill for $150.00! Why so much for so little?

Things could be worse, requiring an expensive part that cost even more money. With the cost of the part, the mark-up plus labor for installation, another $200.00 is tacked onto the bill.

Just to kick you while you’re down, the appliance repair man checks his truck to discover that he doesn’t have the necessary part in stock. Meanwhile, the appliance has been dismantled with parts scattered around, and now the customer must wait two weeks for them to special order this part that is not available locally.

Why is appliance repair service so much? Why is it that they never have the parts in stock? There has to be a better way!

Bob Dougherty, owner of Fleet Appliance, is an authorized service provider for many companies including Viking, Whirlpool, Maytag, Jen-Air, Tapan and White Westinghouse just to name a few. Several times a year, he may be required to travel out of town to attend training seminars on new products and service information. Bob Dougherty is responsible for paying all his travel related expenses.

In addition, appliance repair technicians pay for liability insurance, vehicle maintenance, tools and equipment, office supplies and other business related expenses.

The reason parts seem to be more expensive today is because appliances have many more electronic parts and circuit boards than in the past. These parts are more expensive than mechanical parts from “back in the day.”

The appliance repair man cannot possibly stock every part and they cannot diagnose the problem and purchase the part based on the customer’s description. If they do take a chance and order the part, they may not be able to send it back if it is wrong. Or, they might have to pay a restocking fee.

Bob Dougherty understands the frustration consumers face when appliances break down. Fleet Appliance technicians take great pride in their work; they arrive on time, in uniform and in a lettered vehicle, fully stocked and prepared to complete most appliance repair services on their first trip. The technician will thoroughly inspect the appliance and then recommend the best course of action.

Suffolk County Appliance Repair Expert on Repair versus Replace
What factors determine the decision to repair an appliance versus buying a new one?
Bob Dougherty has noticed an increase in consumers decision making factors that determine whether they should repair or replace appliances. “I think the reason for this is because people are uncomfortable with the idea of spending money on a new appliance when their existing appliance can be repaired for much less,” said Dougherty. “I’ve even found that people will choose appliance repair even if the cost is only $100 less than the purchase price of a new one.”

Before the recession, people were comfortable with the idea of buying a new appliance if the repair costs of their existing appliance would be more than 50% of the purchase price of a new appliance.

According to Dougherty, there are other reasons people will choose to replace old appliances including Energy Star ratings based on energy efficient features, technical improvements and sleeker looks.

On the other hand, if people are happy with their current appliances, they will choose to seek a reputable appliance repair technician that will provide quality service at a fair price. “These days people are saving every cent they can as they seek reputable, affordable appliance repair services.”

Bob Dougherty will not perform an expensive appliance repair service without informing his customer of their options. “If I feel that the appliance is not worth repairing, I will advise the customer,” said Dougherty. “Of course, if they are determined to repair the appliance, I will comply with their wishes.”

Bob Dougherty advises consumers to do their research before hiring an appliance repair service. “Look for a company with a great level of experience and a reputation for customer satisfaction,” said Dougherty. “Check with the Better Business Bureau for complaint reports. Most importantly, make sure they are licensed and insured and authorized to work on your appliances.”

Stonybrook Appliance Repair Technician Clears up Myth about Stainless Steel Appliances
Not all stainless steel is created equally and just because they call it stainless doesn’t mean it won’t become stained, discolored or even rusty
Bob Dougherty is an appliance repair technician in Nassau and Suffolk County, New York. During a recent interview, he answered some commonly asked questions about stainless steel appliances.

“One of my appliance repair customers bought a new stainless steel grill last summer, and he was under the impression that it would look great for years, without maintenance, because it was “stainless steel,” said Dougherty. “This is a myth. Not all stainless steel is created equal and it can stain, discolor or even rust.”

When asked about cleaning and maintaining stainless steel, Bob explained, “Use a soft cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner that is specially designed for stainless steel appliances. There are also polishes you can buy, but do not polish the grill. Stainless steel polishes can discolor under intense heat and make your grill look worse.”

Bob recalled a recent appliance repair service call where the customer was outraged that her stainless steel stovetop had rusted. Bob explained how this could happen, “Harsh cleaners containing ammonia, bleach and disinfectants can remove the protective oxide layer, allowing moisture or other corrosives to begin the deterioration process. Scratches or dents that cut below the surface of an appliance may rust if left exposed.”

Long Island Appliance Repair Technician with Surprising Tips on Dishwasher Maintenance
Believe it or not, the worst place to store dishwasher detergents is under the sink!
Bob Dougherty, provides appliance repair service while building relationships with his customers. During a recent interview, Bob said, “I like to make sure my customers understand how to properly maintain their household appliances to ensure maximum performance. My customers appreciate the tips and advice I have to offer.”

Bob remembers an appliance repair job he went to last summer where he installed a new motor in a dishwasher. As he worked he talked to the customer, answering questions about recommended products to use in a dishwasher.

“I recommended buying a national brand of detergent because they contain quality products,” said Dougherty. “Also, don’t buy large quantities just to save money; old dishwasher detergents can get old and become ineffective. And, believe it or not, the worst place to store dishwasher detergent is under the sink! It should be stored in a cool, dry place.”

The customer was happy to have their dishwasher repaired and promised to refer Dougherty to family and friends who need appliance repair service. “My dishwasher stopped working and Fleet appliance came and put a motor in it. They were friendly, kind and professional. They are not a small one man shop. I would highly refer them to everyone I know,” Bill, satisfied customer in Medford, NY.

New York Appliance Repair Business Owner, Executive Board Member of United Servicers Association and Active in FIRST Peer Group

Peter Dominick CNN What The Week Interviews USA peer group to discover what this means to consumers

Suffolk County, NY – Appliance repair technician, Bob Dougherty is a member of the United Servicers Association and an active member in FIRST Peer Group. An interview with comedian, Peter Dominick and the USA provided some insight as to what this means to consumers.

Comedian Peter Dominick turned news commenter interviewed the United Servicers Association’s peer group (named FIRST, For the Insight and Refinement of Service Together) when they were taking a break from their quarterly meeting for lunch at world famous Varsity Restaurant in Atlanta Georgia. They were quite surprised to see the CNN logo on the microphones and a camera crew surrounding their lunch table. Dominick was getting local opinion asking could Democrats and Republicans get together and solve some of our countries problems. He interviewed members and asked why they cooperated with each other and shared common goals. The show aired nationally on CNN Saturday November 6, 2010 on Peter Dominick CNN What The Week.

First Peer Group was formed at the ASTI (Appliance Service Training Institute) convention in 2010 and has helped each other get a handle on their finances; collaborate on marketing ideas and helping each other with development of their businesses.

A new peer group will be forming at the upcoming ASTI 2011 to participants of the convention in San Diego, California on February 9-12, 2011.

The FIRST peer group were in Atlanta on Thursday to meet with executives at the Assurant, Inc, a warranty provider, at their world headquarters to discuss the recent requirement for background checks and drug screening as well as the treatment of independent servicers.

Association memberships are helpful for appliance repair technicians and various home service providers. Recognition by these associations enhances a service provider’s credibility and professional qualifications.

For example, Bob Dougherty is among a very select group of major appliance service technicians in the United States to be recognized as a certified Appliance Professional with a Master Technician rating.

Appliance Service Long Island with Efficient Grocery Shopping Tips to Save Money

How cleaning and organizing the refrigerator and pantry before grocery shopping can save money and eliminate food waste

Long Island, NY – Bob Dougherty is the friendly neighborhood appliance service provider who enjoys building customer relationships while providing honest appliance repair service at a fair price.

Bob Dougherty owns Fleet Appliance Repair Service, a Long Island appliance repair specialist with the best reputation in town. Long Island consumers appreciate his advice and tips for maintaining appliances to improve efficiency and extend their life.

Bob Dougherty operates Fleet Appliance Corp, a member of AHASC with over 22 years in business. Their factory trained technicians provide appliance repair services on most major brands and they are licensed by Suffolk consumer Affairs.

Why is my refrigerator making noise?

All refrigerators when functioning properly have normal operating sounds. Because the sounds may be new to you, you may be concerned. Your home environment (room size, flooring, cabinetry, etc.) may make these sounds more prominent.

Buzzing is heard when the water valve opens to fill the ice maker or the ice maker is turned on with no water connection.

Pulsating is heard when fans/compressor adjust to optimize performance.

Sizzling/gurgling is heard when water drips on the heater during the defrost cycle.

Popping is heard when the inside walls contract or expand, especially during initial cooling.

Water running/dripping may be heard when water melts during the defrost cycle and runs into the drain pan.

Creaking/cracking occurs as ice is being ejected from the ice maker mold.

Clicking The freezer control clicks when it starts or stops the compressor. The defrost timer or electric damper control sounds like an electric clock as it snaps in and out of the defrost cycle.

Thumping sounds occur when ice cubes drop from the ice maker into the ice bucket and when the dispenser ice chute closes.

Beeping sounds are made when doors are open, or have not been properly closed. Both the Door Alarm and Temp Alarm make beeping sounds.

Hissing/rattling/vibrating is heard during the flow of refrigerant and movement of water lines. Rattling and vibrating sounds could come from items placed on top of the refrigerator.

Appliance Repair Long Island Expert with Tips on Knocking Down the Laundry Mountain

Getting to the bottom of the laundry mountain can be a daunting task…Preventing it from growing so large in the first place is the key

Long Island, NY – Appliance Repair Long Island technician, Bob Dougherty, enjoys building relationships with his customers when he goes out on an appliance service call. Unlike many appliance service providers, Bob enjoys friendly conversation while he is working.

Bob Dougherty owns and operates Fleet Appliance Repair, a large appliance service company that serves customers with a friendly-neighborhood attitude. Bob Dougherty enjoys offering useful tips and information to his customers for getting the most out of all their appliances.
